What EN 1729 is, and what it is not
EN 1729 is the European standard for chairs and tables for educational institutions. It comes in two distinct parts that answer different questions:

School furniture is not a CE-marked product category like toys or PPE. Compliance is demonstrated by an accredited laboratory test report, not a manufacturer's CE declaration.
"Designed to" means someone read a dimension table. "Tested to" means a laboratory loaded, cycled, tipped, and measured the unit. Only a test report stands up in disputes.
The Size Mark System
EN 1729-1 defines size classes matched to pupil stature ranges. Furniture is marked with its size number so schools can order precise mixes rather than a single "standard" height.

How to build the order mix
Get actual age bands per classroom from the end client, not general school averages.
Map each band to one primary size mark and one adjacent size as an overflow allowance.
Order 70–80% primary size and 20–30% adjacent size for each room to cover growth edge-cases.
Use height-adjustable models spanning 2-3 consecutive sizes for lower long-term cost.
